Laetitia Gendre's drawing practice operates at the crossroads of several disciplines, taking shape in diverse forms, from illustration to sculptural proposals and contextual installations combining drawing, moving image and text. Gendre's work explores the points where different realities, spaces and images converge. Among the themes underpinning her practice is the question of space: its representation within existing systems and images, as much as its relationship to societal issues. Her works generally follow non-linear trajectories, built through collage and associations: these cross-references open up multiple possibilities of interpretation, often revealing a tongue-in-cheek sense of humour.
Laetitia Gendre is represented by Galerie Thomas Fischer, Berlin. She teaches in the Drawing department at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK, Ghent), and in the Illustration & Comics section at Ecole de Recherche Graphique (Erg, Brussels).
